English amateurs win European Tour cards
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
English amateurs Hannah Ralph of Sussex and Kym Larratt of Leicestershire have earned full cards for the 2010 Ladies European Tour after successfully making their way through qualifying school at La Manga.
Lancashire’s Corisande Lee will also be offered some playing opportunities next year. The school was described as the most fiercely contested in the 31-year history of the LET and for many of the players it was a two-week test, involving seven gruelling rounds.
Over 120 players first had to tee up in the 54-hole pre-qualifying stage. Hannah, Kym and Cori were among the 48 who graduated to the final stage, where they were in a group of 84 hopefuls, bidding for playing rights.
After four rounds on the South Course at La Manga, the top 30 earned full cards while those in positions 31-50 will receive some playing opportunities in the coming year.
Hannah Ralph (Cowdray Park) was 11th overall, with a five-under par total for 72 holes (70 75 71 71). Her scoring was impressively steady throughout the event, with just five bogeys and one double throughout the four rounds. She birdied the 18th in each of her last two rounds.
Hannah is EWGA’s South Region champion and was runner-up in the English mid-amateur championship.
Kym Larratt (Kibworth) claimed 25th place on one-over par. She was flying high at the halfway stage but slipped back with a third-round 78. However, she recovered admirably in the last round with a two-under 71. She scored 73, 71 in the first two rounds.
Kym was the top qualifier at the English amateur championship at Lindrick and went on to represent England in the Nations Cup in the Irish women’s open strokeplay championship. Her father, Bob, is a European senior tour player.
Corisande Lee (West Lancashire) finished in 45th place with scores of 71 75 78 73. Cori was a key member of the victorious Lancashire team at the English County Finals and won the 2009 Leveret, one of the country’s top scratch events.
Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield) also made it through to final stage qualifying but missed the 54-hole cut.
