South Atlantic Ladies Amateur Championship in Florida
of lead as Jessica Korda has a 62
Pitreavie's Louise Kenney goes into Saturday's fourth and final round of the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur stroke-play championship – "The Sally" – in a creditable joint 10th position in a quality field for the second event of the Orange Blossom Tour in Florida.. In much improved conditions – 16-year-old American Jessica Korda shot a 10-under-par course record of 62 for the Oceanside Country Club women's course at Ormond Beach to take a three-shot lead at 10-under-par 206– Kenney had a 75 for 223. She came back in 35 with birdies at the 13th and short 14th.
Louise, Scottish girls match-play champion in 2000 and beaten by Heather MacRae in the 2001 final, has not played in America since she was Iowa State University's leading player about six to eight years ago.
Jessica Korda (pictured above by courtesy of Golfweek.com) is the daughter of Petr Korda, the Czech tennis player who won the Australia Open in 1998. He caddies for Jessica. Miss Korda, chasing a place in the US Curtis Cup team for the June match at Essex County Club, Massachusetts, must have gone a long way towards securing selection with her brilliant round which had halves of 33 and 39. She had 10 birdies and no bogeys.
Orange Bowl girls champion Alexis Thompson, who won "The Sally" last year by 13 shots, had an excellent 65 (32-33) with eight birdies and one bogey. Alexis, only 14 years of age, is sharing second place with Candac Schepperle, both of them being strong candidates for the American Curtis Cup team.
Scottish Under-21 champion Kelsey MacDonald (Stirling University & Nairn Dunbar) is sharing 14th position on 226 after a remarkable third-round 74. Kelsey had an eagle, seven birdies, four double bogeys and three bogeys in a roller-coaster of a round.
