Melissa Siviter from Staffordshire wins on Kiawah Island
Melissa Siviter, a freshman student at Belmont Abbey College, Charlotte, North Carolina, has the honour of being the first British and Irish winner on the American college golf circuit in 2010.
Melissa, a member at Enville Golf Club, Staffordshire, had rounds of 75 and 70 for a total of 145 over the par-72 Cougar Point Golf Club course at the famous one-time Ryder Cup venue of Kiawah Island.
She was competing in the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. Mitsuki Katahira (Daytona State College) matched Melissa's total with identical scores of 75 and 70.
Siviter was declared the individual winner by virtue of a scorecard play-off. Her birdie at the fifth hole in the final round was decisive.
Team-mate Carley Warrington from Bradwell finished joint 15th with rounds of 78 and 79 for 157.
Belmont Abbey College (616) finished fourth of 16 teams behind Daytona State (602), Rollins (608) and Florida Southern (609).
