Top 20 finish in California by James Byrne

Banchory's James Byrne, a student at Arizona State University, finished joint 16th in a field of 80 players at the USC Collegiate Invitational at North Ranch Country Club, Westlake Village in California.
Over a par-71 course of 6809yd, Byrne had rounds of 74, 69 and 69 for 212 -nine shots behind the winner, Eugene Wong (Oregon) (65-69-69).
Runner-up on 204 was T J Vogel of Southern California with scores of 70, 63 and 71 for 204.
San Diego State's English-born students, Andrew Cooley and Tom Berry, both from Surrey, finished joint 24th and joint 46th respectively.
Sophomore Cooley scored 68, 76 and 70 for 214 while freshman Berry had rounds of 72, 73 and 74 for 219.
Former Scottish boys' match-play champion Paul Ferrier (Charlotte) from Edinburgh came 52nd with scores of 73, 73 and 75 for 221.
Arizona State (849) finished third in the team event behind Oregon (831) and California (847) with Charlotte (866) 10th of 14.

Maxwell jt 18th, Crichton jt 21st in Coyote Classic

Western New Mexico University students Steven Maxwell from Glasgow and Scott Crichton from Dalgety Bay, Fife, finished joint 18th and joint 21st in a field of 88 players for the Coyote Classic at Arrowhead Country Club, San Bernardino in California.
Maxwell, a junior year student, scored 71, 71 and 72 for 214. Crichton had rounds of 75, 72 and 68 for 215.
Winner by seven shots was Gene Webster (California State University-San Bernardino) with great scores of 69, 63 and 64 for a 14-under-par total of 196 over the par-70, 6510yd course.
CSU-Monterey Bay (848) won the team event ahead of Barry University and Chico State (both 851. Western New Mexico (867) tied for sixth place in a field of 17 teams.

Peter Latimer shares eighth place in North Carolina

Peter Latimer (Guilford College) from Markinch tied for eighth place in a field of 60 players at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate competiiton at Pine Needles Lodge & Club, Southern Pines in North Carolina.
