Aberdeen girl Gemma runner-up in Florida

despite a 9 in her second round

US-based Aberdeen teenager Gemma Dryburgh finished runner-up in an international field for the Innisbrook Easter Junior championship near Tampa, Florida.
Gemma, who had four birdies in each of her last two rounds, had scores of 81, 77 and 74 over a tough, 6,250yd course, for a total of 232.
She was very unfortunate in the second round on her 16th hole, hitting a cart path which kicked her ball into a lateral hazard and then having to take a drop from a greenside bunker when her ball was unplayable and initially thought to be lost. She finished with a costly 9 at the par-5 hole.
The four shots dropped at that one hole came back to haunt her because she finished four shots behind the winner, Lauren Grogan from Jack Nicklaus's home town of Columbus, Ohio. Lauren scored 75, 73 and 80 for 228.
Dryburgh finished seven shots ahead of the third-placed Fazella Sukho (78-81-80 for 239) and Clara Teixeira (Brazil), who came fourth, was farther back on 243 (83-83-77).
