Jodi Ewart No 4, Sally Watson No 31 in US college rankings

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Sally Watson, pictured left by Cal Carson Golf Agency,  now looking forward to her second Curtis Cup match and she is still only 18 years of age (19th birthday on July 10),  is No 31 in the updated GolfWeeky US women's college rankings. The highest British player is Jodi Ewart (New Mexico) from Yorkshire. Jodi, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, is No 4, which is the highest she has ever reached in her four years as a student at Albuquerque.
What a pity that the Yorkshire girl, her US college golf career over and her University of Mexico student days coming to an end, could not delay her decision to turn pro on the US Duramed Futures Tour until after the Curtis Cup (June 11 to 13).
Would a fortnight have made all that big a difference to her future golf career?
Ewart's presence in the GB&I team for the match against the United States at Essex County  Club, Massachusetts would surely have made a huge difference to the confidence of Mary McKenna's squad.
Thought for today: If it were an all-Europe team, instead of a GB&I one, that challenged the Americans for the Curtis Cup, it would very likely include four of the top-20 from the US college rankings - Sweden's Carlotte Hedwall (No 1), Spain's Carlota Ciganda (10) and Marta Silva (13) and Germany's Nathalie Mansson (16).
