Cupar's Krystle Caithness has covered her last 26 holes in the German Ladies Open in nine-under-par and her ever-improving rounds of 74, 69 and 66 for a running 54-hole total of seven-under-par 209 has her poised in joint fifth place with one round to go in Munich on Sunday.
Krystle covered the first nine holes in a flawless, four-under-par 32 with birdies at the first, long third, sixth and short eighth. She got it to six under the card with further birdies at the 10th and short 12th before dropping her first and only shot of the day at the 14th.
But Caithness got that stroke back with her seventh birdie of the day at the 16th for 34 home and a great score of 66.
Krystle, only four shots off the pace, will be rueing a double bogey 7 at the long 11th in the first round.
South African Ashleigh Simon did even better - an eight-under-par 64 to take up the running on 11-under-par 205. She is a shot behind last week's winner, Melissa Reid who had 71 for 206.
Musselburgh schoolgirl Julie Yang is in joint 30th position on one-under-par 215, a terrific performance by a 14-year-old amateur who has produced some astonishing results over the past two or three weeks in amateur events.
South Korean-born Julie arrived at the Loretto Golf Academy via Phoenix, Arizona last September. Her scores in Munich so far are 71, 73 and 71. She had birdies at the first, fourth, 10th and 14th but also had three bogeys in halves of 35 and 36.
Lynn Kenny (Archerfield Links) matched the par of 72 for 217 and a share of 39th place.
Carly Booth from Comrie, the second Scottish schoolgirl to survive the halfway cut, had a 74 for 219 and a share of 50th place. The Glenalmond pupil birdied the fifth, sixth and 14th and looked set at least to match par but bogeyed the 16th and 18th in an inard 38.
