Loretto's Julie Yang leads German open championship

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Loretto School pupil Julie Yang, at 14 the youngest ever winner of the Welsh women's open amateur stroke-play title at Southerndown last weekend, is hot on the trail of another prestigious championship.
The South Korean-born girl leads the German women's open amateur championship at Dusseldorf Golf Club with only Sunday's round to go.
Julie has scored 73, 70 and 67 for a three-under-par tally of 210 over the par-71 course.
She had five birdies and a solitary bogey, at the eighth, in her four-under-par round today.
Julie birdied the long third, the short ninth, the long 10th, the short 15th and the 18th.
She is by no means home and dry. France's Lucie Andre, top of the European Golf Association rankings last year, is only one stroke behind on 211 after scores of 73, 72 and 66.
Lucie had more birdies but also more bogeys than Julie.
The French girl birdied the long third, the nith, the long 10th, the long 11th, the short 12th, the short 15th and the long 16th. She had bogeys at the 14th and short 17th.
English youngster Charley Hull is in joint third place, five shots behind second-placed Andrew. Charley has scored 73, 73 and 70 for three-over 216. She had 17 par figures and a birdie at the fifth today. On the same mark is France's Morgane Baxin de Jessey (72-74-70).
The only Scot in the field, Majorca-based Lauren Mackin, is lying last in the field of 64. She has had rounds of 77, 75 and 83 for 235.
