Nikki Foster keeps it up to lead first

qualifying round of English championship

Blackburn teenager Nikki Foster continued her rich seam of early-season form by leading the first qualifying round of the English women's amateur championship at Broadstone Golf Club, Dorset today.
The 18-year-old, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, runner-up in the "Helen Holm" at Troon and then the Welsh women's stroke-play at Southerndown, shot a two-under-par 70 to go into the second round with a one-shot lead over two Curtis Cup team selections, former English women's champion Hannah Barwood (Knowle) and past English girls title-holder Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton).
Defending champion Charlie Douglass (Brocket Hall) is lying joint ninth on 76.
The 32 players with the lowest 36-hole aggregates will go on to contest the match-play stages.
