PETER LATIMER FINISHES JT FIFTH IN
NCAA DIV 3 COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Peter Latimer from Markinch, a senior-year student at Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina, finished a creditable joint fifth in a field of 120 players at the NCAA Division 3 men's championship at Hershey Country Club, Pennsylvania.
Latimer, pictured, a quarter-finalist in last year's Scottish amateur championship at Royal Troon, had rounds of 77, 72, 72 and 68 for a two-over-par total of 289 (three rounds over a par-72 course, one over a par-71).
He finished nine shots behind the three-shot winner Tain Lee (Claremont) who had rounds of 69, 69, 72 and 70 for seven-under-par 280.
Latimer's effort helped Guilford College finish second, pipped by one stroke, to Methodist University in the team championship contested by 37 college squads.
