TITLE-HOLDER JILL AND TOP SEED MARGARET
BOTH KNOCKED OUT IN QUARTER-FINALS
Defending champion Jill Harrison (Linlithgow) and top seed Margaret Tough (Falkirk) were knocked out on a night of upset results in the quarter-finals of the Stirling & Clackmannan women's county golf championship at Falkirk Golf Club tonight).
Harrison, who had qualified in third place, lost by 3 and 1 to the sixth seed, Jennifer Bryans (Bathgate).
Bryans will meet Louise MacGregor (Falkirk), the No 2 seed, in Wednesday's second semi-final. Louise, 21 last week, beat 16-year-old Alison Goodwin (Glenbervie) by one hole to reach the last four.
Tough, playing over her home course, failed to make local knowledge pay but it was not for lack of effort. Linda Allan (Falkirk Tryst), the No 8 seed, took the No 1 qualifier's measure only at the 19th of a quality match in which the better ball was about two under par.
Allan will play another home course player, No 12 qualifier Aileen Jenkins (Falkirk) in the first sem-final. Jenkins beat Lesley Gibb (West Lothian) 4 and 3.
