Champions Lancashire lose to Yorkshire at County Match Week

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Lancashire, the 2009 English counties’ champions, were beaten 6-3 by Yorkshire when they opened the defence of their title at North region County Match Week at Carlisle today.
This is the last of six regional rounds of the 2010 English Counties’ Championship, which is supported by Virgin Atlantic. The winners of each of the six weeks will go forward to the County Finals at Kedleston Park, Derbyshire, in September.
Yorkshire became the first team to take the national title for five years in a row when they won the 2008 championship.
Lancashire, who ended their winning run, made a good start on the first day of County Match Week, winning two of the three morning foursomes. But in the afternoon singles only Catherine Roberts (Pleasington) won her point, beating former English and British champion Emma Brown (Malton and Norton) on the last hole.
In the day’s other matches Cheshire beat Durham 6-3 while Northumberland halved with the hosts, Cumbria.

The winners of the County Match Weeks which have already been completed are: Dorset (South West region), Sussex (South), Lincolnshire (Midlands North), Northamptonshire (Midlands South) and Hertfordshire (East).
