Dorset and Gloucestershire heading for county decider

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
English champion Hayley Davis led Dorset to a second successive win in the South West regional County Match Week at Saltford, Somerset. They beat Cornwall 8-1.
Gloucestershire also won their second day’s match, defeating Devon 6-3, and the two counties have emerged as early leaders in their group. Both have two points from two games, but Dorset has a narrow advantage having won 15.5 games, compared to Gloucestershire’s 11. In the day’s other match Somerset beat Wiltshire 7-2.
This is one of three County Match Weeks which are currently taking place, with three more due to take place later this month. The winners of each will go forward to the national finals of the English Counties’ Championship, which is supported by Virgin Atlantic.
In the Midlands North regional week at Kenwick Park the competitors were again deluged by rain. The hosts, Lincolnshire, and Nottinghamshire are the current leaders and they’re neck and neck: both have two points and have won 11.5 games. Today, Lincolnshire beat Leicestershire & Rutland 6.5-2.5; Nottinghamshire beat Shropshire 5.5-3.5. In the day’s other match Staffordshire beat Derbyshire 8-1.
In the South regional week the hosts, Sussex, have emerged as leaders after they scored their second successive win, this time beating Kent 6.5-2.5 at East Sussex National. Hampshire entered the competition for the first time and won their point with an impressive singles comeback against Surrey. Hampshire were trailing 3-0 after the foursomes but won five of the six singles for a 5-4 victory.
