Dorset and Sussex through to English county finals

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Dorset and Sussex have joined Lincolnshire by qualifying for the national finals of the English Counties’ Championship, supported by Virgin Atlantic.
Dorset won the South West regional County Match Week at Saltford, Somerset, with a perfect score of five wins from five matches.
The team, whose players include English champion Hayley Davis and English U13 champion Georgia Hall, concluded the week with a 7½-1½ victory over Somerset. In the day’s other matches Gloucestershire beat Wiltshire 8-1 while Devon beat Cornwall 6-3.
The South regional week, at East Sussex National, was extremely close with Sussex edging out Hampshire on a countback of matches won. Both counties had 3½ points from their four matches but Sussex had won 24½ games, one more than their rivals.
Hampshire did all they could on the final day, winning their match against Middlesex 9-0. Sussex, meanwhile, trailed Surrey 1-2 after the morning foursomes but came back strongly in the singles to win 5-4.
Lincolnshire had won the Midlands North week, on home ground at Kenwick Park, with a day to spare. Victories in their first four matches made them impossible to catch.
These are the first of six regional County Match Weeks which are taking place this month. Teams from the East and Midlands South regions will be in action next week. The winners of each week will go forward to September’s County Finals at Kedleston Park, Derbyshire.
