DUMFRIES-SHIRE WIN SOUTH TICKET
TO SCOTTISH COUNTY FINALS
Dumfries-shire became the third team to qualify for the Scottish women’s county golf championship finals at Bothwell Castle GC despite losing 5-4 to Borders in the final match of the South Division team championship at Powfoot Golf Club today.
Earlier in the three-day programme, Dumfries-shire beat Galloway 6 ½-2 ½ and Galloway beat Borders 5-4.
Dumfries-shire’s big winning margin on the opening day stood them in good stead in the final analysis.
They finished with 10 1/2pt to Borders’ 9pt and Galloway 7 pt.
Members of the winning Dumfries-shire team were:
Diane MacDonald (Dumfries and Galloway), Lindsey Kirkwood (Powfoot), Jordana Graham (Dumfries and Galloway), Trish Lilly (Dumfries and Galloway), Katie McCracken (Powfoot), Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County), Clare Kieran (Powfoot), Fiona Macgregor (Thornton).
The Scottish county finals will be played at Bothwell Castle GC from September 17 to 19.
Also through to the four-cornered contest are North Division champions Angus and Renfrewshire, winners of the West Division.
The East Division championship started today (Monday).
