Hannah helps Hertfordshire to big win over Norfolk
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
England international Hannah Burke helped Hertfordshire to a convincing win over Norfolk as two EWGA regions began their County Match Weeks.
The East and Midlands South weeks are the latest of six regional qualifying rounds for the final of the English Counties’ Championship, which is supported by Virgin Atlantic. The winner of each of the six weeks will go forward to the County Finals at Kedleston Park, Derbyshire, in September.
Hannah Burke, who has just won the Irish strokeplay championship and the prestigious Astor Salver, won both her matches as Hertfordshire defeated Norfolk 7-2 at West Herts Golf Club. The hosts qualified for County Finals in 2009.
In the day’s other matches Bedfordshire beat Suffolk 8-1 and Essex defeated Cambs & Hunts 6½-2½.
The Midlands South week, at Goring and Streatley, began with defeat for the hosts, Berkshire, who lost to Buckinghamshire 3½-5½.
Northamptonshire - whose team includes Charley Hull, the 14-year-old winner of two top scratch events this season - beat Worcestershire & Herefordshire 7½-1½. Warwickshire, who went through to last year’s County Finals, beat Oxfordshire 5-4.
In the County Match Weeks held earlier this month Dorset qualified to represent the South West; Sussex to represent the South; and Lincolnshire to represent Midlands North. The North regional week will take place at the end of June.
