Lincolnshire sweep into lead in Midlands North
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Lincolnshire swept into the lead in the Midlands North County Match Week with an immaculate 9-0 victory over Shropshire at Kenwick Park.
This is one of three County Match Weeks which are currently taking place, with three more due to take place later this month. The winners of each will go forward to September’s national finals of the English Counties’ Championship, which is supported by Virgin Atlantic.
Lincolnshire, who are hosting the Midlands North Week, have three points from three matches. Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire currently share second place with two points apiece.
In the South West Week, at Saltford, Somerset, the lead is shared by Dorset and Gloucestershire, who each have a perfect record of three wins from three matches. Dorset has the advantage with six more games won than their rivals. The two teams meet tomorrow in what could prove to be the showdown match.
In the South week, at East Sussex National, three counties each have two points: Hampshire, Surrey and the hosts, Sussex. But Sussex and Hampshire have each played only two matches, while Surrey has played three. In addition the hosts, Sussex, have the advantage of having won five more games than Hampshire.
