Lincolnshire win through to County Finals

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Lincolnshire have become the first team to book their place in the 2010 finals of the English Counties’ Championship, supported by Virgin Atlantic.
They qualified with a day to spare when they won their fourth consecutive match at the Midlands North regional County Match Week, on home ground at Kenwick Park.
They took their place with considerable style, defeating Nottinghamshire 8 ½-½.
Although Lincolnshire can’t be caught, today will see a battle royal for the runners-up spot. Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire each have two points.
In the South West regional week, Dorset are in pole position with four wins from four matches – but two other counties will be bidding to catch them and force a countback. Somerset, their final day opponents, have three points, as do Gloucestershire, who play Wiltshire. In the day’s other match Cornwall play Devon.
There’s all to play for in the South region where the lead is currently shared by Hampshire and Sussex, who each have 2½ points from three matches. Today, Hampshire will play Middlesex, who have yet to win a point, while Sussex take on Surrey, who have two points. Kent have completed their matches with one point.
These are the first of six regional County Match Weeks which are taking place this month. The winners of each will go forward to September’s County Finals at Kedleston Park, Derbyshire.
