THE PAUL LAWRIE SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

MONDAY, JUNE 7 AT MURRAYSHALL, NR PERTH

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GOLF ASSOCIATION
The 39th Scottish Schools Golf Championships, decided over 36 holes, will be played on the Murrayshall House Hotel courses, near Perth, on Monday, June 7.
Boys and girls play both the Murrayshall (par 73) and Lynedoch (par 69) courses for the 2010 titles (Individual and team) and a chance to represent Scotland in the annual schools golf international against England, to be played at Fairhaven course near Lytham in England on September 13.
Boys’ entries are drawn from the Local Authority areas with three boys representing each area (usually decided by local qualifying events). Twenty-six areas are represented, giving a field of 78 from across Scotland. Thirty-one players have handicaps of 2 or better with two boys at plus one - Grant Forrest, the current Scottish boys' champion, and Scott Gibson, the 2009 Scottish schoolboys champion.
Entries for the girls' event are on an individual basis (limited by handicap), and this year 63 girls will be competing. Thirty-seven of them have single figure handicaps. The 2009 Scottish schoolgirls champion, Ailsa Summers, will be trying to retain her title and there is sure to be interest in the lowest handicapped player- 14- year-old South Korean Julie Yang (plus 2), the current Welsh women's open amateur stroke-play champion.
Scottish Schools Golf Association secretary Dorothy Scott is enthusiastic about the event.
“The support of Paul Lawrie has been crucial in increasing the high standing of the event and the Schools Association are very grateful to him. There is keen competition to play in the championships and even more competition to try to secure a place in the international teams.
Over the years, there are many golfers (including some at very high levels in the game of golf) who have been very proud to be associated with Scottish Schools Golf. Long may that continue!”
