NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH LADIES GOLFING ASSOCIATION
Alford’s Laura Murray gained an extra reward for a battling play-off victory at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews last Sunday by moving into second place behind Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) in the Scottish Ladies’ Golf Association’s Order of Merit.
Murray, who has already indicated that she will turn professional at the end of the year, beat Amy Boulden and Stacy Keating at the second extra hole of the sudden death decider to take the coveted St Rule title.
Kenney, beaten finalist in the Scottish championship at Craigielaw last month and winner of the SLGA Order of Merit title last year, remains in pole position on the Merit list with 2,150pts. Murray has 1,880pt to her credit.
Jane Turner (Craigielaw) is third with 1,515 and Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), who won the SLGA Junior Order of Merit two seasons ago, remains in fourth spot with 1,285.
There are two counting events this weekend – the Munross Trophy at Montrose and the Irish women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Newlands, Dublin.
