EDINBURGH STUDENT SHARING LEAD WITH SOUTH
AFRICAN IN BOYD QUAICH TOURNAMENT

Edinburgh University student Alex Main has a great chance to score the biggest golfing win of his life tomorrow. He goes into the morning’s final round of the Boyd Quaich international students’ tournament over the Old Course, St Andrews, sharing the lead with South African Karl Ochse from Stellenbosch University.
Main returned a three-under-par 69 in this evening's third round over the Old Course for a five-under-par tally of 211. Earlier in the day he had jumped into contention with a 70 over the New Course, having opened his campaign with a 72 over the Old Course on Tuesday.
Ochse started slowly with a 73 on the Old Course but has got into an impressive stride with a pair of 79s today, first on the New Course and then in the evening over the Old. He is, of course, bidding to complete a famous double by South African golfers at St Andrews over the past week.
But it is by no means a two-horse race for the title in this 62nd staging of a tournament first played in August 1946 in memory of two St Andrews students who were killed in World War II.
John Owens (Ulster) is only a shot off the pace with rounds of 72, 68 and 72 for 212.
Defending champion Gordon Stevenson (St Andrews) looks out of it on 218, seven shots behind the joint leaders.
