England play Scotland in European

championship quarter finals at La Manga

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
England qualified third in the European ladies’ team championship at La Manga Club, Spain, and will play Scotland in tomorrow’s quarter-finals.
Curtis Cup player Rachel Jennings led the England team’s scoring with a level par 73 on another very hot day. She was followed by Irish open strokeplay champion Hannah Burke on one-over 74.
Overall, the team scored 13 shots worse than their first day total and slipped back from second place. But they finished a very comfortable nine shots ahead of fourth-placed Denmark.
Team captain Julie Otto remarked: “Today was certainly tricky, but credit to Rachel Jennings and Hannah Burke who held scores together over the last few holes.
“We are looking forward to going into the match play stages tomorrow."

SCOTSWATCH:
A nine-shot improvement from an opening 82 to a second-round par 73 at La Manga by Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) and a solid 74 by St Rule Trophy winner Laura Murray (Alford) cemented Scotland's qualification for the championship flight.
But the Scots' sixth place means they will play third-placed England in the first round of the match-play series.
Sweden (730) were the top qualifiers ahead of Spain (731) with England (741) thired, Denmark (750) fourth, Germany (756) fifth, Scotland (757) sixth, Netherlands (759) seventh.
Austria and France both finished on 760 and France were placed eighth under some tie-breaker system which did not involve the usual comparision of second-round totals as Austria had the better second round total (377 to 383).
