Essex golfer Dulcie Sverdloff wins Abraham Trophy

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Essex teenager Dulcie Sverdloff  was crowned England’s most improved girl golfer today when she won the Abraham Trophy at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.
Dulcie (Thorpe Hall Ladies), 15 years old, started her round with an eagle 3 and came in with a gross score of 75, net 72. She won the handicap competition by a shot from another Essex golfer, Anna Wells (Chigwell).
“It’s lovely to win and this is a nice confidence boost for me,” said Dulcie, who is going on to play this week’s English U15 girls’ championship at Market Rasen.
“My short game helped me today. I didn’t strike the ball my best ever but I did keep it in play and got up and down, holing quite a lot of putts.”
She was one of 24 girls who qualified for the national final of the Abraham Trophy on the basis of handicap reduction. Dulcie, who took up golf only two years ago, reduced from 19 to six last year. She trains with EWGA’s Super Birdies South Squad at Brocket Hall and so far this season she’s cut her handicap to three. “It’s been a bit of a nice ride! It’s all happened so quickly,” she said.
Along the way, Dulcie has also won the South East U15 title and qualified for this year’s grand final of the Faldo Series. Last week she won the ladies’ championship at her club by 15 shots.
