GORDON STEVENSON SLIPS BACK IN BOYD QUAICH
Overnight leader Gordon Stevenson (St Andrews) dropped back to joint seventh in the very heavy raiu at St Andrews for the second round of the Boyd Quaich international students’ golf tournament.
Stevenson’s fine 67 over the Old Course on Tuesday had given him the edge but the excess water seemed to blunt it on Day 2. He required 76 shots to navigate the New Course – rated by many a tougher test than the Old Course – and his halfway tally of 143 saw him fall three shots behind the new leader, John Owens (Ulster) who has had rounds of 72 (Old Course) and 68 (New Course) to be two shots ahead of the field on 140
To survive the cut, players had to total 149 or better for 36 holes.
