International flavour to Glenbervie junior open tournament
Although the conditions were very poor with very heavy rain showers throughout the day 90 junior golfers took part in this year’s Glenbervie Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Open. The competition had an international flavour with five young golfers from Croatia playing and we had competitors from as far afield as Dumfries, West Kilbride, East Lothian and Perthshire.
The Junior Open trophy presented to the boy returning the lowest scratch score was won by 15 year old Robert Johnson of Helensburgh who shot a tremendous 71. Other notable scores were 74s by Peter Maxwell (Glenbervie) and Connor Syme (Dumfries and County). The best nett score by a boy aged under 15 was a 66 by 13 year old Paul McHugh of Dullatur (80 less 14). Glenbervie junior Richard Johnston had the best nett score in the 15 and over age group with a 67 (79 less 12). 77 boys took part and it a real credit to them that only nine boys submitted a no return in what at times was really atrocious weather.

The MarScot Trophy for the lowest scratch score was won by Alison Goodwin (Glenbervie) with a 79. It was no easy victory however as Gillian Arnott (Kilbirnie Place – 80), Alexis Hutton (Falkirk Tryst – 81) and Mhairi McKay (West Kilbride – 83) were all close behind.
In the handicap competition, Megan Duff of Hilton Park returned an excellent nett 69 (90 – 21) to be first with Catherine Goodwin of Glenbervie second with a nett 71 (95 – 24).
