JULIE YANG WINS DANISH TITLE AND PULLS

OUT OF SCOTTISH U21 GIRLS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Musselburgh-based South Korean Julie Yang won the Danish women’s amateur international golf championship at Silkeborg Golf Club today (Sunday). The 72-hole three-day tournament was played mostly in high winds and Julie won by three strokes with a 14-over-par total of 78, 75, 72 and 77 for 302.
Danish players Nicole Larson (305) and Sara Monberg (307) finished second and third.
Since she moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Scotland to become a pupil at Loretto School last September, the 15-year-old Julie, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, has won the Welsh women’s open amateur stroke-play championship, the Paul Lawrie Scottish schoolgirls title and finished a close second in the German women’s international amateur championship, apart from national Independent Schools Association competitions as a Loretto School pupil.
She is now playing out of Kings Acre Golf Centre, near Edinburgh.
Julie has withdrawn from the Scottish Under-21 girls’ championship at Dunfermline on Thursday and Friday this coming week because she is competing in the final qualifying for the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Hillside Golf Club, Southport on Monday, July 26 and wants to spend several days practising in Lancashire.
The championship proper starts at Royal Birkdale on Thursday, July 29.
