Leona Maguire pulls out of Europe's Junior Ryder Cup team
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Due to a hectic playing schedule over the coming two months Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) has withdrawn from the European Team to compete against the USA in the Junior Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Scotland, 27-28 September.
Leona, and sister Lisa, were both members of the European Junior Ryder Cup Team in 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite losing out the Americans at Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA. Leona’s playing schedule for 2010 has prioritised ladies events, and as a result involved making the difficult decision to withdraw from the European team for the Junior Ryder Cup.
Leona will instead be focusing on challenging at numerous prestigious tournaments over the coming months including the AIB Ladies Irish Open, Ladies British Open Strokeplay Championship, Ladies Home Internationals and the Espirito Santo Trophy (World Cup), in addition to the Girls’ British Amateur Championship and Duke of York Trophy which Leona qualified for as winner of the French U21 Championship in April.
