Scottish Under-18 girls championship at Eyemouth GC

RACHAEL WATTON SHOWS HER CLASS IN FIRST QUALIFYING
ROUND WITH A PAR 73

Mortonhall’s Rachael Watton confirmed her status as one of the favourites for the Scottish Under-18 girls’ match-play golf championship at Eyemouth this week with a level par round of 73 to lead the first qualifying round.
Rachael, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency,  had birdies at the short third, the fourth, the long 10th and the long 18th in halves of 36 and 37. Her bogeys came at the long first second, shot sixth and 11th.
Closest rivals going into Wednesday’s second qualifying round, at the end of which the leading 32 will go forward to the match-play stages, are Gillian Scanlan (Hamilton) on 76 and Loretto School pupil Lesley Atkins (Gullane) with a 77.
Scanlan matched Watton’s 36 to the turn with birdies at the fourth and fifth and bogeys at the second, short third and seventh but she took 40 shots for the inward half, bogeying the 11th and 16th.
