Scottish Under-18 girls' championship
Rachael Watton is leading qualifier
by ELEVEN strokes at Eyemouth
Mortonhall's Rachael Watton established herself as an overwhelming favourite to win the Scottish Under-18 girls' match-play championship when she headed the 32 qualifiers at Eyemouth Golf Club today by ELEVEN shots.
Rounds of 73 and 71 over the par-73 course gave the in-form Rachael, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, a splendid 36-hole aggregate of two-under-par 144.
No 2 seed is Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) with scores of 79 and 76.
Three players finished on 156 - Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw), Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh (IMG Academies), who is a student at Bradenton, Florida and plays on the American Junior Golf Association circuit, and Gillian Scanlan (Hamilton).
The earlier starters had the worst of the wind and rain with the last couple of groups not starting until after the delay and having only a light breeze to contend with.

Perhaps the biggest surprise among the non-qualifiers (177 or better was the cut-off mark) was Rachel Hanlon (St Regulus), pictured right, who won the East of Scotland girls' title just a week or so ago and won a few trophies in the qualifying rounds at the Scottish women's championship at Craigielaw in May.
She was 34th after the two qualifying rounds at Eyemouth.
There was a 2 1/2 hr suspension of play at one stage because of fog.The earlier starters had the worst of the wind and rain with the last couple of groups not starting until after the delay and having only a light breeze to contend with.
