Hampshire’s Chris Quinn wins senior tournament
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Hampshire’s Chris Quinn warmed up for this month’s European senior ladies’ team championship with a two-shot win in EWGA’s latest senior regional tournament.
Chris, who is a past winner of the English senior amateur and stroke-play titles, returned a pair of 78s to win the Southern regional event at South Winchester Golf Club.
She finished two shots ahead of last year’s winner, Jane Rees of Hendon, who is a Welsh senior international.
Chris played the back nine holes of the course in fine style on both days. In the first round she had four consecutive birdies from the 11th and came home in two-under 35; in the second round she was level par for the inward half.
The European senior ladies’ team championship takes place at the Sporting Club, Berlin from 31 August to 4 September.
Division B of the Southern event was won by Anne Anttonen of Finchley – who made a rapid start to her senior career. She was 50 only the week before the tournament.
Anne played well below her 13 handicap with rounds of 83 and 81 – against a CSS of 75 – and won the division by 12 shots from Sheila Marshall (Haywards Heath). Her scores included a 9 on the par-4 fourth hole in the first round.
Anne has played golf for 12 years but has recently had more time to devote to her efforts to improve. She also played in EWGA’s inaugural Grand Medal Final and said: “That got me more involved with EWGA and I noticed there was a seniors’ tour and that I qualified. I compete in all possible competitions at my club and now I want to enter more national events to get experience.”
