INTERNATIONAL SHINE ON KAREN’S

GAME TO LEAD AT EDEN COURSE

Last week Baberton’s Karen Marshall was in Northern Ireland, captaining the Scotland team who finished second to England in the girls’ home internationals at Bangor Golf Club.
This week, in the popular Strathtyrum Trophy women’s tournament at St Andrews, Karen is showing that she is still a capable golfer in her own right.
A sparkling round of 70 over the Eden Course gave her a two-shot lead from former Angus county champion Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) at that venue.
The leading English challenger is third-placed Nicola Rawlinson (Royal Birkdale).
Title-holder Rachel Hanlon (St Regulus) is joint fifth on 76.
The competitors playing their first round at the St Andrews New Course found it a very difficult propostion.
Leader with an 87 was Christine Richardson (Penwortham), a shot ahead of another who has travelled up from England for the event – Jane Graham (Moor Park).
