Top seed Karen Marshall is still on course to win the Strathtyrum Trophy women’s open tournament for a fourth time St Andrews
In today’s matches over the Eden Course, the Baberton player, who last week was non-playing captain of the Scotland team at the Girls’ Home Internationals in Northern Ireland, beat Jennifer Fallos (Manchester) by 2 and 1 and then scored a 3 and 2 win over Glenbervie’s Alison Goodwin to reach Friday morning’s semi-final.
Standing between Karen a place in the afternoon final is Christine Appleby from Preston, who won through at the 19th against Karen Clayton (Manchester) in the quarter-finals.
In the morning, Clayton won by two holes over the defending champion, young Rachel Hanlon from the St Regulus club, St Andrews.
In the lower half of the draw, it will be No 2 seed Nicola Rawlinson (Royal Birkdale) against the No 3 seed, Ann Ramsey (Kirriemuir), a former Angus women’s county champion.
