WINNING BELGIAN JUNIOR TITLE
Stirling University student Kelsey MacDonald, 19, a member of Nairn Dunbar Golf Club, won the Belgian junior international tournament's girls' individual title at the fourth and last attempt at Royal Golf Club of Belgium, near Brussels today.
Kelsey, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, winner this year of the Scottish women's amateur title and the Scottish Under-21 girls championship for the second year in a row and also beaten finalist in the British women's open amateur championship, capped her great season by coming from several shots in arrears with a brilliant last round of two-under-par 70.
That gave her a total of 293 after earlier rounds of 72, 73 and 78. She won by five shots from Federica Maria Costantini (Italy) who finished with a 76 for 298.
Liam Johnston (Dumfries and Co) and Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) finished joint 16th and joint 21st respectively in the boys' championship.
Johnston had scores of 72, 77, 74 and 74 for 297, McDonald 72, 75, 78 and 74 for 299.
The boys' title was won by Thomas Elissalde (France) who beat Marcos Pastor Rufian (Spain) and Victor Perez (France) at the second hole of a three-way sudden-death play-off after they had tied on 284. The first extra hole was halved in birdies and Elissalde produced a second birdie at the next hole for victory.
