Lynn Kenny amazed at Scots girls' low handicaps

Some 16 girls from clubgolf and county coaching programmes, including one in East Lothian, enjoyed a unique opportunity to be coached by three of Scotland's Ladies European Tour players taking part in last week's Aberdeen Ladies' Scottish Open.

Carly Booth, Krystle Caithness and Lynn Kenny spent an hour with the girls - aged from ten to 18 - at Archerfield Links.

The girls are amongst the 3,000 in Scotland being coached at clubs and county associations, supported by the national junior golf programme, clubgolf.
"I thought the girls were fantastic," said Kenny, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who is attached to the East Lothian venue.

"Some of them had great swings and to think of the age they are and the handicaps they have got down to already, it's inspiring.

"I got down to a handicap of 14 when I was 14 and scratch when I was maybe 16 or 17.
"Some of these girls are already playing off five and they are youngsters!
"It's great and it shows that clubgolf is doing the right thing and the talent is coming through at an early age."
Lesley Nicholson, captain of the Scotland ladies amateur international team and the East Lothian Ladies' County Golf Association junior convenor, took 14 of her squad players to the clinic.
She said: "Coaching clinics like this one raise the profile for women's golf in general.
"The girls can take away some pointers from it and hopefully improve their game.
"It was a great opportunity for the girls to meet the professionals, pick up some tips, and generally get involved and see the level that they can aspire to."
