Coronation Foursomes

The successful run this year in open competitions by members of Droitwich Golf Club, Worcestershire continued at St Andrews today when Linda McKeown and Maryjane Shannon won the Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes Grand Final over the Eden Course. 
In windy conditions, Linda, handicap 21, and Maryjane, handicap 9, combined to score 35 Stableford points.
Two other pairs matched that total - the Scottish mother and daughter partnership of Marion, who plays off 28, and one-handicap girl international Hannah McCook from Abernethy GC in the Highlands, and Lynne Knight, who plays off 13, and Norma Morgan, who plays off 28 at Alton GC, Hampshire.
McKeown and Shannon won the countback with 21pt for the inward half, ahead of the McCooks with 17, and Knight and Morgan with 16.
Linda and Maryjane refused to be discouraged by no points scored at two early holes, the second and the fourth, and managed to total 14 for the outward half, with three-pointers at the first and ninth.
It was after the turn, that the Droitwich duo really got their act together. They had four 3pt holes on the way home, covering the inward stretch in roughly three under par.
The big bonus prize for Linda and Maryjane is a place in the pro-am of the 2011 Ricoh Women's British Open at Carnoustie where they will be paired with one of the world's leading lady professionals.
The Peugeot Ladies Golf Union Coronation Foursomes has grown significantly over the years, this year producing record entries. Over 35,000 competitors from more than 1,400 affiliated golf clubs throughout Great Britain and Ireland competed in preliminary club level stages, progressing through regional finals to the Grand Final.
