top 20 in Fighting
Irish Classic
Former Scottish boy international Stuart Ballingall, a student at Missouri University, finished joint 17th in a field of 81 players at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic at Notre Dame University's Warren course at South Bend, Indiana earlier this week.
Ballingall, pictured, the fifth highest Scot in the RandA World Amateur Golf Rankings, had rounds of 72, 71 and 74 for a total of 217 over the 7,023yd course with a testing par of 70.
Two San Francisco University students, Ji Hwan Park (69-71-68) and Taylor Travis (68-71-69) tied for first place on two-under-par 208.
Iowa (853) won the team title ahead of Notre Dame (859) and San Francisco, despite their individual 1-2, could finish no higher than third with 860.
Ballingall obviously lacks support at Missouri with the team finished eighth of 14 on 877.
JAMES ROSS JUST OUTSIDE TOP 20
Edinburgh's James Ross, pictured, a sophomore student at Michigan State University, finished joint 24th in a field of 88 players at the Adams Cup at Newport two-day event hosted by Newport National Golf Club, Rhode Island.
Ross had rounds of 80, 73 and 73 for 10-over-par 226.
Another Scot on the Michigan State roster, Glasgow's Connor O'Neil, a freshman, finished joint 55th on 235 with scores of 78, 80 and 77.
Greg Eason (Central Florida) was the individual winner with rounds of 74, 69 and 71 for 214.
Central Florida (868) won the team event by a big margin from West Florida (886). Michigan State did not do too well, coming 12th of 17 teams with a total of 923. Obviously they need even more Scots on their roster!
