Radford University were lying 9th on 301 after the opening round of the Great Smokies Collegiate with a steady days play. Sunday was a completely different story as the Highlanders re-wrote their history book.
A tourney low score of 285 led them to 2nd place overall, and smashed their previous 18 hole best by a stunning 13 shots! The 36 hole total of 586 was also a new record low. Added to that, Hannah Coles (Maxstoke GC, Warwickshire) took individual 2nd.
Head Coach Jeff Beeler said afterwards ' i knew this team were capable of these sort of scores, I just didn't expect it this early in the season. I'm extremely proud of how we performed'.
Freshman Kirsty Condon (Blankney GC, Lincolnshire) added 'I was a tad miffed when I came off, as I'd been 3 under thru 13 and dropped 4 shots in the last five holes, but that was soon forgotten when I realised what the Team had achieved. Go Highlanders'.
