Aberdeen girl runner-up to Leadbetter daughter

Florida-based Aberdeen teenager Gemma Dryburgh, 17, finished second on Sunday at Naples Grande Golf Club, Boca Raton in an event on a new IMG Leadbetter Junior Tour. Gemma had scores of 75 and 74 for a total of five-over-par 149, one shot behind the winner, David Leadbetter's daughter Hally who had scores of 72 and 76 for 148 over a 6,038yd course.
The tour has been set up to provide tournaments over the autumn, winter and spring over courses equivalent in length and difficulty to Division 1 college golf .
"Gemma again played well and was amongst the prizes for the fifth tournament out of her last six," said her dad John, an Aberdeen businessman, in an E-mail to Kirkwoodgolf.
"She is working through some major changes in both swing and putting so her scores were a pleasant surprise.
"Incidentally, the boys' tournament was won by another IMG student, Keagan Cummings from Ireland who shot a final round five-under-par 65 with a fantastic eight birdies!"
Kim Berard of the IMG Leadbetter Academy at Bradenton, Florida, where Gemma is a student, also E-mailed:
"Gemma has done a ton of work on both the physical and mental conditioning side at IMG Academies, and it is really paying off."
