English golf legend Laura Davies will return to Christchurch to defend her New Zealand Women's Open title in February.
The former world No 1 female golfer has won four times on the European Ladies Tour this season to lift the number of her professional career victories to 78. Davies said she was delighted to defend the New Zealand title at Pegasus, north of Christchurch.
"There was no question about not coming back. New Zealand is a country I want to visit. It was a thoroughly enjoyable tournament and it is played on a course I thought was excellent,'' Davies said.
"It was great to win there and it really set me up for what has been a very good year for me and there's still five or six tournaments remaining.''
Davies, 47, has lost none of her zest for the game.
"I love the game and I love competing. I get a real thrill being able to not only compete with these younger players but to still be able to beat them.
"That is not going to be easy to do in New Zealand again because the field was extremely strong this year with the European players and I would hope that it might be even stronger next year.''
The NZ Women's Open, to be played from February 17-20, is co-sanctioned by the Australian Ladies' Professional Golf and the Ladies European Tour.
