Ruth and Carolin win Brenda King Foursomes

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The impressive pairing of Ruth Lindley and Carolyn Kirk scored a one-shot win in the final EWGA senior event of the season, the Brenda King Foursomes at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire,
Carolyn, from Ganton in Yorkshire, and Ruth, from Hartlepool, Durham, regained the title they won in 2007 when they returned a second round score of 77 to overtake the Oxfordshire pairing of Annie Gowing and Kate Evans.
They’d been trailing by a shot after the first round on the Thonock Park course – and wondering whether they would count the cost of a missed 2½-footer on the 18th green. But they played steadily on the Karsten Lakes and came home in level par to win the competition.
“We were really, really pleased and thoroughly enjoyed it,” said Carolyn, who played in England’s senior Home International team of 2008. Since then, she’s been restricted by a foot injury in 2009 and the welcomed arrival of a grand-daughter this year, coupled with her duties as Ganton ladies’ vice captain.
Ruth, meanwhile, has been continuing her competitive play and this season has won the Durham vets championship as well as representing the north in the annual vets’ jamboree and scoring a high finish in the British seniors’ championship.
“It really is a super end to the season, you met old friends and make new ones,” said Ruth, who has now won this competition three times, with two different partners.
Gainsborough Golf Club is owned by PING who laid on factory tours for the competitors and also offered club fitting sessions in their purpose-built custom fit area.
