FRASER MUNRO LEAVES LGU FOR LET

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Ladies Golf Union championship manager Fraser Munro is leaving the staff of the St Andrews-based encompassing body of women’s amateur golf in Britain and Ireland to join the Ladies European Tour as a tournament director.
Perth-born but Kinross-based since childhood, Fraser, pictured, will take up his new post on January 1. He joined the LGU staff in April 2003 and has quickly risen through the ranks within the organisation. He has been responsible for the organisation of many major women’s amateur golf championships and international matches during his time with the LGU and has also refereed at numerous LET, PGA and US PGA events.
“After the best part of eight years with the LGU I’m certainly sad to be leaving but I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and leave with many happy memories. I’m really looking forward to some fresh challenges in my new position with the Ladies’ European Tour and with next year’s Solheim Cup taking place at Killeen Castle these are undoubtedly exciting times to be involved with ladies’ professional golf,” said Fraser.
Shona Malcolm, the LGU’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Fraser has been a real asset to the LGU and a much valued colleague over the last eight years. We wish him well in his new post and, while we’re sorry to see him go, the LGU has an excellent relationship with the LET and I’m sure we’ll still have the opportunity to work with him over the coming seasons.”
