Woburn's Lauren Taylor bound for
Baylor in September 2012
By ALISTAIR TAIT
GolfWeek Staff WriterEngland teenage prospect Lauren Taylor has accepted a full golf scholarship at Baylor University at Waco,Texas. She is a member of Woburn, my home club.
Lauren has agreed to the offer verbally, and will begin her college career not next September but in September 2012. She is thinking of studying sports management, but isn't sure yet.
Baylor is an NCAA Division 1 team, which means Lauren will be playing against the top girls in US college golf. The team has the use of Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco, but what I like most is that there is a practice facility only for the Baylor men's and women's golf teams.
According to the Baylor web site, it's pretty swish. Judge for yourself: "The Bill and Roberta Bailey Golf Center, the clubhouse for Baylor's men's and women's golf teams. The centre boasts a hill-country motif, with a wood and Austin stone exterior.
"It houses locker rooms for each team, space for team meetings and offices for the coaches. A highlight of the facility is an indoor practice area with state-of-the-art video equipment, available for analyzing the players' swings."
Not quite the Duchess' practice ground at Woburn then!
Lauren is planning to visit the university in the New Year. She follows a long line of Woburn members attending US colleges. Steve Lewton, NC State; Nicole Whitmore, Nova Southeastern University; Sam Whitehead, Grand Canyon University, and Nick Drane, Kennesaw State.
+England international Hannah Burke completed a very successful four golfing years at Baylor University last May.
