Saltford take over as English senior women's championship hosts
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Saltford Golf Club, between Bath and Bristol, has stepped in to host the 2011 English senior women’s stroke-play championship, after the original hosts pulled out at short notice. The championship will take place, as planned, from June 14 to 16.
In December 2006, Burnham and Berrow Golf Club, on the Somerset coast, formally accepted an invitation to hold the championship, but they cancelled their agreement this autumn.
Emma Lowe, championship manager for the English Women’s Golf Association said: “We have advertised our championship since 2007 and we were surprised and disappointed by Burnham and Berrow Golf Club’s decision.”
The English senior women’s stroke-play championship is one of the premier events on the senior calendar and is well supported by players from all over the country.
Emma Lowe added: “We are absolutely delighted that Saltford Golf Club has agreed to hold the championship.
“It will provide an excellent venue and we are certain that our competitors will enjoy playing the course.” The parkland course enjoys a natural wooded setting with extensive views over the Somerset countryside.
