Stephanie makes top 20 but Sally jt 58
Curtis Cup reserve Stephanie Meadow (University of Alabama) from Northern Ireland and Scotland's Sally Watson (Stanford University), a two-time Curtis Cup team player, finished joint 16th and joint 58th respectively in a field of 108 players for the Pac-10 college women's championship which ended at the Stanford University course, California on Sunday.
Bad weather forced a two-hour suspension of play during the final round of the 54-hole event.
Stephanie, pictured, a freshman at Alabama, had scores of 71, 72 and 75 over the par-72 course (yardage 6148) for a total of five-over-par 218. She had six bogeys and two birdies, at the seventh and eighth, in her final round.
Sally had a tournament she will want to forget quickly, particularly disappointing over her home course.
The Edinburgh-born player had rounds of 76, 74 and 79 for 16-over-par 229. She started at the eighth in her final round and ran up a triple bogey 7 at the ninth. She did birdie the 12th and 18th but had seven bogeys in all, part from the triple. In her second-round 74, Sally had two double bogeys.
Germany's Sophia Popov (Southern California) was the individual winner with a total of six-under 207 (72-68-67) by one shot from Stephanie Kono (UCLA) (73-67-68 for 208).
There was consolation for Kono in that her effort helped UCLA (856) win the team title by 11 shots from Alabama with Southern California (875) third in a field of 21 teams. Stanford (882) tied for sixth place.
