VIKKI LAING HAS FOUND HER FEET AS A TOUR PRO
- EIGHTH ON LET MONEY TABLE
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Vikki Laing, the top Scot on the Ladies European Tour money table, is confident that last week's missed cut in Korea was just a one-off blip as she goes into this week's Women's Indian Open at New Delhi.
The 29-year-old former Curtis Cup international from Musselburgh, playing out of the Kings Acre Academy, has been a tour pro on both sides of the Atlantic for a few years now. And at last she seems to have found her feet in her second year on the LET circuit.
With earnings of 124,404.82 euros from 21 events this season, she is eighth on the table - the fourth-highest British player behind Laura Davies, Melissa Reid and Trish Johnson - and has missed very few cuts.
It is Vikki's best-ever season in the paid ranks, even though she did win a tournament at Gettysburg on the US Futures Tour a few years back. So why now and not earlier?
"I am still working on the things I think I need to do to keep getting better. There is not too much that I am doing differently compared with years gone by, just trusting more in what I am doing," said Vikki, who was a record-setting four times (1996-1999) Scottish girls' champion in her teens .
"The hard part is the practice! The easy part is the going out there and playing."
She says she has no intention this year of trying to get back on the LPGA Tour via its Q School process.
"My goals for this year were all based around competing a full season on the LET. I certainly would consider going back to the LPGA Q School at some point in future and giving it another go.
"The timing of that I will have to talk over with my coaches at the end of the year when we review my goals and ambitions for 2011."
