GEMMA FINISHES IN STYLE FOR FOURTH PLACE AT DORAL RESORT
Aberdeen teenager Gemma Dryburgh finished off her competitive year in some style by finishing fourth at the Doral–Publix Junior Classic over the famous Blue Monster Course at the Doral Resort, Miami.
She shot a final round of two-under-par 70 - the best by anyone in the big, quality field, highlighted by six birdies, three of which were on the first three holes.
The field, for one of the biggest junior events on the US golf calendar, was as strong as ever with girls from over 20 countries represented, including a large European contingent from notably France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland.Gemma was the highest-placed European behind the four-stroke winner, Argentina's Manuela Carbajo Re who finished on five-under-par 211 with scores of 71, 69 and 71.
Runner-up was American Victoria Trapani from Hollywood with rounds of 69, 73 and 73 for 215.
Third place, two shots ahead of Gemma, came Annie Park, Levittown, USA), with rounds of 71, 75 and 73 for 219.
Gemma's earlier scores of 75 and 76 left her with too much to do to get close to winning but finishing in that way with a 70 for 221 over a course as hard as the Blue Monster was the perfect end to her year.
