BRITS AND IRISH STRUGGLE AT LPGA FINAL Q SCHOOL

Two rounds of the LPGA Final Q School gone at Daytona Beach, Florida and the British/Irish players in the field of 118 have the proverbial mountain to climb if they are to survive the cut, let alone make the top 30 who will gain players' cards for 2012 at the conclusion of the five-round marathon.
Galway-born Alison Walshe, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who played for the United States in the 2008 Curtis Cup match at St Andrews, is the best placed of the four and she is joint 56th on 149 with rounds of 71 and 78.
Rookie pro Jodi Ewart from Yorkshire had a 73, one of the day's better rounds and an improved of six shots on her first-day effort but she is still only sharing 81st place on 152, the same mark as Wales' Becky Brewerton who has had a pair of 76s.
A more recent Curtis Cup player and still an amateur, Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co Down) will maybe be persuaded she is not quite ready for this level of mainly pro competition. She is joint 112th on 158 with scores of 77 and 81, very disappointing from a player with the potential to score much better than this.
