SWEDEN'S HJORTH WINS LPGA TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Sweden's Maria Hjorth, a former University of Stirling student, won the LPGA Tour Championship at Grand Cypress Golf Resort, Florida today.
Only the leading six players had final 72-hole aggregates of level par 288 or less, attributed to hard, firm greens which required links-style pitch-and-run approaches instead of the normal towering wedges to holding greens.
Hjorth closed with a 72 for five-under-par 283 to win by a shot from Amy Yang (74 for 284). The victory was only Hjorth's fourth LPGA win and first since 2007. It also was a sweet homecoming victory for the Swedish native who now lives a few miles away from the tournament, the first LPGA event in Florida in two years.
Yani Tseng finished 21st on 293 but still won the Rolex Player of the Year award.
