SUE TURNER TO CAPTAIN GB AND I 16s AND UNDER GIRLS' TEAM

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE LADIES GOLF UNION
The Ladies’ Golf Union is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Sue Turner (pictured)  as captain of the GB and I girls’ team which will play a Continent of Europe side at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, Wales, in June.
The match, to be contested between teams of six players aged 16 years and under, will be played concurrently with the ladies' equivalent, the biennial Vagliano Trophy match, on June 24 and 25.
Already an experienced and successful captain, Sue led the GB and I ladies team to victory in the Five Nations (former Commonwealth) Trophy match in South Africa in 2007, and more recently masterminded successive Home Internationals victories for Wales in 2008 and 2009.
A highly respected motivator, she joins fellow Welsh international and international team captain Tegwen Matthews in the quest to bring the Vagliano Trophy and the new girls’ international match trophy to this side of the Channel.
Sue says “The introduction of a GB and I junior team is something that’s been close to my heart for a number of years. You can imagine my surprise and excitement at being asked to captain the team in the inaugural match against Europe and I thank the LGU for this honour.
"We have a wealth of young talent in GB and I and I firmly believe that this match will be a great addition to the calendar. I just can’t wait till June!”
In a further show of confidence in the Captain, the LGU has confirmed that Sue Turner will serve as team manager to International Team Captain Tegwen Matthews for the 37th Curtis Cup Match against the USA whi
ch will be held at The Nairn Golf Club, Scotland from June 8 to 10, 2012.
