EWGA ANNOUNCE MANAGEMENT BOARD CHANGES
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has announced changes to its Management Board in preparation for the retirement of the chairman.
Sue Whittaker will step down at the AGM in March when she completes her three-year term of office as chairman. The Board has decided not to make an immediate external appointment because EWGA is involved in talks about a potential merger with the English Golf Union (EGU).
Members of both organisations are expected to vote on a merger proposal in the summer of 2011.
In the meantime, non-executive director Sylvia Perrins has agreed to be acting chairman. If the proposal is approved Sylvia will continue as chairman until the merger; if the proposal is rejected, the post will be advertised immediately.
The Management Board has also co-opted three members to give additional golfing experience during the potential merger period. They are Elizabeth Earnshaw and Ruth Whitehead – who are both members of the merger steering group – and Margaret Berriman.
Elizabeth, a past president of EWGA, is the chairman of the association’s Operational Board and will retire at the AGM. Margaret and Ruth were her immediate predecessors as chairman. The Operational Board looks after the core golfing activities of the association.
In addition, Chrissie Owens has resigned as a non-executive director, with immediate effect, in order to take up a paid appointment with EWGA as a marketing and sponsorship consultant. During her two years on the Management Board Chrissie has been responsible, in a voluntary capacity, for developing EWGA marketing and attracting support from sponsors including La Manga Club, Tourism Ireland and Virgin Atlantic.
